The University of Jordan (UJ), through the Department of Journalism, Media and Digital Communication at the School of Arts, hosted a panel discussion titled “The Role of National Media in Shaping Public Awareness amid the Proliferation of Digital Platforms.” The session was moderated by Head of Department Dr. Neven Halalsheh and drew faculty and staff, with strong participation from students at the School of Arts.
Speakers discussed how national media can sustain a credible online presence while reflecting Jordan’s identity, history, and cultural diversity. They emphasized harnessing technology for the public good, countering misinformation, and upholding professional standards across digital platforms.
Halalsheh emphasized that national media is more than a vehicle for news; it mirrors society, preserves cultural memory, and tells the nation’s stories. She called for keeping pace with digital transformation without compromising credibility and transparency, and highlighted the growing responsibility of universities to promote media literacy both on campus and online.
Participants included Ahmad Karaki, Bilal Al-Ajarmeh, and Bakr Al-Raggad. They urged fact-based, human-centered storytelling, safeguarding cultural heritage amid globalization, and constructive student engagement to produce reliable, context-rich content that strengthens national awareness while avoiding clickbait and disinformation. They concluded that responsible digital engagement is key to preserving the credibility and impact of national media in the modern era.
