The School of Arts at the University of Jordan (UJ) hosted the Department of Geography’s Scientific and Career Day, themed “Geography and Digital Transformation: Harnessing Technology and Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development and the Labor Market.” The event brought together representatives from national institutions, faculty members, and students.

Dean of the School of Arts Prof. Mohammad Al-Qudah emphasized that this long-standing academic tradition continues to enrich the University’s research culture and expand students’ practical and analytical skills. He noted that the Department of Geography has become a key contributor to national academic development as the discipline increasingly moves toward data-driven inquiry and spatial intelligence.

Speakers highlighted the growing importance of environmental studies, sustainable development, GIS technologies, and AI-enhanced spatial analysis, underscoring how these tools deepen understanding of human–environment interactions and support evidence-based policymaking, resource planning, and urban development.

The program featured presentations by the Ministry of Environment, the Department of Statistics, the Jordan Meteorological Department, the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for Western Asia (RCSSTEWA), and several companies specializing in GIS and digital transformation. Interactive booths provided students with direct exposure to emerging technologies and the career opportunities evolving around them.

Participants stressed the importance of strengthening connections between universities and the labor market, and of equipping students with advanced skills in data science, artificial intelligence, and spatial analytics to keep pace with current professional demands and contribute to sustainable development in Jordan and the region.
