UJ Marks World Arabic Language Day

The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obaidat, said that the university has taken the necessary steps to strengthen the Arabic and English languages skills of its students, confirming the significant role of soft skills to their future success.

Obaidat added, during the “Arabic Language, the Language of Poetry and Arts” symposium organized by the School of Arts on the occasion of the World Arabic Language Day, by saying, “We will not be content with our graduates unless they fully master their language".

Obaidat announced that the Deans’ Council decided to add six accredited hours in Arabic as a university requirement, directed to all upcoming students in order to increase their proficiency in the language.

Obaidat stressed that the university wants its students to be able to communicate in Arabic in every way and master the art of presenting and addressing, pointing out that mastering Arabic, the language of the Quran, provides the strength and wisdom to the mind to master any other languages.

The activities of the symposium included a segment presented by students from the Arabic Language Department and debates in which they demonstrated their poetic creativity and skills in recitation.

At the conclusion of the symposium, Obaidat, along with by the Dean of the School, honored Professors of Arabic Language, Muhammad Awad and Shukri Al-Madi for their contributions to the Arabic Language Department and the language in general.
